Job Description
Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies. Implements policies and procedures to ensure that these practices are in compliance with the appropriate statutes and regulations, and that reporting requirements are met. Evaluates and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control teams. Prepares environmental impact statements and applications for all new permits and renewals. Conducts health program in industrial plant to recognize, eliminate, evaluate and control occupational health hazards or environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community. Identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances, removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Takes effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards as required reports on injuries and fatalities. Interfaces with employees, community health care providers, the HR organization, other Safety, Health, and Environmental Affairs personnel, ergonomics specialists, worker compensation specialists, rehabilitation counselors, etc., to determine how to maximize the safety and well-being of employees.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to type, manipulate, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working conditions include working in the field in different weather conditions; as well as, office environment. Working at height and climbing stairs up to 300 ft on launch complexes.
External Basic Requirements
Bachelors degree in a field related to Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental
Candidate must have completed their degree between May 2012 and June 2014
Candidate must have a cumulative GPA of 2.90 or greater on a 4.00 scale
NOTE: If candidate is selected for further screening, candidate must supply an unofficial college transcript upon the request of ULA (cumulative GPA and degree from current or most recent college must be validated). If a candidate is extended an offer and accepts the offer, ULA must receive an official transcript
Candidate must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds
Candidate must be willing to work in the field in different weather conditions such as rain, wind, heat or cold
Candidate must be able to climb stairs on towers up to 300 feet
Candidate must have specific vision abilities including close vision and the ability to adjust focus
Candidate must have a valid Drivers License with a clear record
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain SSBI and SCI access
Knowledge of strategies and methodology for conducting preliminary risk assessments for chemical, physical, biological and environmental hazards using established protocols.
Knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental sciences (e.g. chemistry, radiation physics, toxicology, industrial hygiene, etc) to understand, analyze, and communicate information and mitigate safety, health and environmental risk.
Knowledge of relevant government laws and regulations impacting the functional responsibilities of the occupation such as but not limited to: OSHA, EPA, FDEP
Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources at the department level.
Candidates must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email; and the ability to master internal database programs and associated computer systems
Candidates must be able to travel domestically (less than 10%)
Candidates must have the ability to work overtime and on call as needed.

Familiarity with environmental, health and safety processes
